Composting

Manure Tea

Animal Poop is excellent for gardening.

Allowing your animal manure piles to age and compost down for around 3 – 4 months is a great way to ensure that you kill off up to 75% of any weeds and parasites present in the manures themselves. The best way to treat the manure is to ‘hot compost it’; this way, the heating will kill off many parasitics.

Animal manures are rich in nitrogen and are great for gardening and the composting process, but are also great to act as slow-releasing nutrient-filled mulchers. Manure tea preparation is very similar to that of other compost tea making. Manure and compost teas are superb for promoting and motivating healthy garden plant growth.

Work on 1 part manure to 5 parts water – place into a container like an old rubbish bin and cover with water and allow to steep. Manure dissolves very easily in water, and it’s not long before the mixture turns into a slurry sludge.

For more efficient use, simply after two weeks or so, shovel out of your containment to a smaller container and then drain and strain off or place into a pillowcase or a burlap sack and allow to drain and strain off over another container.

The slurry left inside the sacking can be added to your compost heap and then forked in and over.

Another less messy alternative than having loose manure in a bin is to have the waste in tied sacks already and place those into the containers and cover with water. After steeping for a week to two weeks, extract the bags and empty the contents into the compost heap or pack around plants and with the liquid, dilute further 1 part to 5 parts water and use as a fertiliser.

  1. I thought of you the other day… someone show me a composter machine 😮

They keep in their kitchen – throw their scraps in… hit a button and in 4 to 5 hours there is compost soil 😮 no maggots, no flies nada 🙌

Is called 🤔 Lomi Composter … is expensive though so it better weave gold too lol ✌️

Omg the rains are back – the sky just opened up again!!

    1. I have seen the Lomi’s also, they are almost £800 here which is a huge investment for a very small return, they need to work on lowering those prices down to make it affordable to everyday households. If they did that then it would be a really great bit of kit for regular homes 🙂

      1. Holy crap!! 😮😮 that’s almost $1000 US dollars 💸 😮😮 … to be exact that is $982.33 😮

        Over here… is half that … at $499.95 – basically $500 🙄

But yes that is pretty large investment even still

But I will say / that is my kind of composting – no bugs no issues nada lol ✌️ just change it for me lol

It does need to come down more to reach more everyday people – agreed

      2. It would make for a huge demographic shift in appreciations for composting if utensils and machines like that were more affordable.

It’s happening, but slowly – when l first saw the Lomi’s advertised here which was around 2019 they were then around the £2000 mark. I saw one the other day priced at £500.

      3. Is like microwaves or VHS players from the 80’s 😄😄

Microwaves were so expensive at first – now look 😄

And VHS used to be a massive machine that was expensive and now not even a thing unless you retro lol ✌️

Eventually I am sure they make more affordable – price seems to be coming down but like you say “slowly”

It would definitely be huge shift!! Make it easy like that? Yes please 🙏

But is only worth it if I can afford lol ✌️

      4. I would buy one if they came way down!

If they went to maybe $200 they would have way more interest and sales probably – and still be profitable and get product into hands of consumers

It is quite the little composter lol
