Slug Off Slimy Sluckers! Try saying that fast three times in a trot, Slug Off Slimy Sluckers! Slug Off Slimy Sluckers! Slug Off Slimy Sluckers! I assure you, it’s more complicated than it looks in text. I am not that keen on walking around late at night cutting slugs up into tiny pieces, nor am l in favour of drowning them in beer, let alone any other nasty little devilish deeds of awfulness! I am more for a preventative and manageable eco-style approach these days. I am not anti-bug/slug/snail and so on. In my eyes, they are part and parcel of the whole organic composting experience. Any l tend to find are placed into my compost bins. Over the years, I have tried eggshells, coarse sand, broken and crushed oyster shells with no real success. I read an article about using thorny stems like blackberry, dog rose, and rose branches too that could act as a prickly protective barrier against the hordes of the slimy suckers. It makes perfect sense. The soft underbelly would be injured. I have tried the method, and it does work. I found even better results in my garden from using dried and older stems because they were lethal to the gloved me as much as they were to the slugs. If you consider it an option, try cutting the stems into 10-12″ lengths and placing them around the edges of your beds or containers, as l found this to be the most effective deterrent. Of course, remember the first rule: try not to encourage them into the gardens full stop. |

it makes so much sense that using thorny branches or stems would work to prevent the slimy buggers!

It’s strange – Suze and l are now looking to create a business, we are finalising the discussion today about whether we are a business partnership or a Limited Company – however our business name is to be:
Earthly Comforts
Home and Garden Care
One side is purely business and the other is purely home 🙂
