Worm World

We can’t be the only ones genuinely fascinated with the residents of worm farms and compost piles.

It’s the essence of why l became so enthusiastic about worm farming and composting in the first place over the more traditional gardening experience.

The one thing l noticed when l started researching worms and compost critters was the lack of the actual specific ‘worm’ images there was, and l figured, well, maybe that is something that worm fanciers like myself might appreciate seeing more of.

By taking these close-ups and macro shots of the worms, l came up with the idea of the Earthen Wurmin brand. These galleries display to the reader the true inner beauty of earthwormery.

Thanks for reading, and we hope you’ll enjoy the new season.

Earthen Wurmin’s Worm Facts & Quotes

How long?

Earthworms only grow to a certain length, and their size and health reflect their age, diet, environment and species. Some species are less than an inch long, yet others can grow to ten feet!

The Lumbricus terrestris, or common earthworm, can live up to six years of age and attain a length of around fourteen inches!

I remember reading about Dave the Earthworm, who measured just under sixteen inches and weighed in at an ounce! Dave was considered a giant to the average earthworm who might only measure in at around three inches tops!

Consider how lucky Dave was, for example, given how many predators out there would love nothing more than … well, ALL of Dave for breakfast, lunch and two dinners!

Dave was discovered in the County of Cheshire on an allotment in 2016! He also travelled to the Natural History Museum in London to be officially measured and studied! Dave’s secrets for success to other budding worms? Fertile soil and good drainage!

Sadly, however, Dave is now dead, euthanised by scientists as supposedly the kindest thing that could be done for his survival. Yes, that makes sense?; l would further suggest that Dave’s hints of survival for other budding worms would be “Think Small!”

The average lifespan of the earthworm [those not named Dave] is between four to eight years. They are expected to live longer if they can avoid toads, rats, moles, birds, those who recreationally fish, those who are not careful when composting and half-witted scientists.

“They are near the bottom of the food chain – a meal for fish and birds – while humans eat from the top of the food chain, consuming an astonishing array of what lies on the planet. But eventually, even we become food for the worms. Shakespeare saw this connection, writing in Hamlet, “A man may fish with a worm that hath eat of a king, and eat of a fish that hath fed of that worm.”

      1. Well I am original gamer from 80’s

Xbox and PlayStation I played up until maybe 2010 – I would play with the kids ❤️

When my oldest was little – he would say let me win lol

I would say – you wanna win? Then beat me lol … you gotta practice and get good…

And then he did lol … he’s the one who ACE’s all the games we play now – video games or otherwise

        Student became the master lol

I stopped playing and started just watching when they got bit older and things got really bad with Satan …

With my daughter she would want me to read all the words for her – and then one day I say – you wanna know the words, sound them out … she wanted to so bad – so she did ❤️ it aided in helping her read – she was reading full chapter books by age 4

It was something we enjoyed together ❤️

It was amazing for hand eye coordination – reading – problem solving etc

I used video games as an aid to level up the kids lol ✌️😘

They always want me to play now – but it’s way over my head now … I like the classic games

My oldest made me a game system that plays all the classics I wanted – all my favorites ❤️

Plus my version of games I like – are very very different than the games they like…

        My daughter loves Splatoon

My oldest and middle son play all the latest games

They now found Steam so they play all the games lol

I like games like Spyro, Sonic, Kirby… those types and also ones like Harvest Moon (that was Nintendo) and Mario ❤️

They like battle games and that is not my style

So eventually they surpass me with it lol

When playing Terraria or Minecraft – I do not like the monsters trying to attack lol

On Minecraft I would play on build mode only lol … on occasion they would beg and promise to keep me safe lol – so I would allow monsters lol

I don’t like dying in video games either lol ✌️

        We’re you a gamer?

      2. I loved this and how you taught the kids to learn, Suze was exactly the same with her own kids and her grandkids – bravo Trisha 🙂

        Was l?

Yes very much so, still am – don’t often get time to game as l am shattered most days , but l have been a player of World of Warcraft for 19 years being one of the original sign ups in 2004, and l play Fallout 4 and occasionally Witcher 🙂

But l used to enjoy board games as a kid and as a young adult l found Nintendo.

      3. Video games 🎮 do have really good uses! And are fun… nice way to escape the world, and have fun safely

Did England have arcades in the 80’s ?lol do you remember those, if you had them? Lol

My problem is the remotes now, cause they are so advanced than what I am used to. I had too much life and death coming at me so I have not played in a long time.

They will set me up to play… and I end up getting killed because I don’t know how to operate the remote lol

Can I just have old school shit back? Lol

        Where is my gameboy? Lol

        I love Nintendo ❤️

I also love to build on Minecraft – I would say the building there is my favorite – I love red stone creations lol ✌️I love building worlds ❤️ and seeing how amazing I can create – I like to create ❤️✌️ that’s probably my favorite

I never got into or tried WOW – I don’t really know much about it.

I have heard of the games you speak of and my kids know them.

They are always playing games from Steam

My oldest is video game wiz now and always knows the latest thing going on or coming out

The 3 of them are really close because they enjoy playing video games together – they have a common interest and admiration ❤️ they are VERY close ❤️ they have each other with it

They adore each other and support each other

And video games – I know where they are, I know they are safe, and I know they are not doing bad things – is release and enjoyable and can bring family togetherness

There are many bonuses to video games when set correctly ❤️✌️

      4. Yes there are huge benefits with moderations and settings in place and managed time wise.

I play mostly desktop games these days, but l had a Gameboy and loved Tetris and was good and back in the 90’s was seriously hard core and fast and could attain those very high levels 🙂

If not playing the games l have mentioned already then l play word games or online pool [not with others] just against the computer.

I remember arcades and was addicted to them for a while 🙂

      5. Agree! Can’t just throw them on video games – you play with them.. “parent”

I don’t really have time for games now, I am too tired, and there is too much!

I can do a quickie phone game on occasion, sometimes I play the switch with the kids

I do not like playing online games anywhere with others lol – I stay away

Sometimes on my phone if there is a game I want to play – the minute it puts me playing with others – I’m out OR if it wants Facebook to play – I am completely out and will delete

I LOVED Tetris too! I was queen – once staying up ALL night to complete all stages with a girl friend of mine … we wanted to see the final sequence when you beat the game lol – ahhh youth lol

My grandmother would take me to the mall when I would visit – she would let me do the arcade for little while – they did not have video games at their house lol

      6. I think that is one of the biggest downsides to gaming – l prefer solo play for 99% of the time, l just enjoy chilling out by myself and don’t want all the trappings of others as it gets too liud and complicated.
