Favourite of Favourites If I have to choose a favorite, then let it be lilacs The ones from the bush that grew outside the kitchen window Of my childhood home The ones that bring memories of clippings in a glass next to my bed Or a vase filled with purple and white in the middle of the kitchen table And how the scent now reminds me of you The ones that grow inside my heart ~~~ If I have to choose a favorite, then let it be sunrises The ones I have seen countless times bringing light to the sea The ones I have captured from my front porch And tasted in the reflection of my coffee The ones that now make me think of you Because of your love for them The ones that rise in my mind ~~~ If I have to choose a favorite, then let it be poems The ones I have memorized, the ones I have yet to write The ones I have memorized, the ones I have yet to read Neruda, Thomas, Frost, and Thoreau All the poetry you’ve written The lines of you I am lucky to know The ones I carry in my soul ~~~ If I have to choose a favorite, then let it be April The month with new beginnings Blossoming flowers in spring rains The month that brings the lilacs And introduced you to the world my greatest gift the one that lives in my heart, mind, and soul ~~~ And when it comes to the favorite of all favorites It is not difficult to choose In every lifetime It has always been And will always be My sweet and darling you Copyright © 2023 Kristian Weigman @ Life Lessons From Around the Dinner Table |
