Empire Cinema – Sandwich |
Well, okay, drama llama ding dong and all that – it’s NOT been 84 years, but it has been 26 years since l was last at the cinema, and the last thing l saw in 1997 was Titanic with Leo and Kate, Billy, Kathy and Gloria! Last night was the first time in years and years and years that l went to the cinema and the first time that l have been to the Empire Cinema here in Sandwich. It is a 1930s building; you have seen it occasionally in some of the galleries l have shown over the last year. It was a great and cheap night out for Suze and me and terrific value! The two tickets, a bag of popcorn and chocolates [the latter l should not have had], and a bottle of water came to £15.00! For the two of us! It’s an old cinema desperate for a lick of paint, but it could easily house 100 people when busy, and it was working to all the old values, including old-style cinema tickets. I felt right at home instantly. The only reason l stopped going twenty-six years ago was that the cinemas were becoming overcrowded. But last night, the Empire only had 21 people in! Like the three bears porridge, that is just right for me! What was the first film l saw after a 26-year absence? The Book Club – The Next Chapter – with Keaton, Fonda, Bergen and Steenburgen. As a sequel, it wasn’t that great especially given as l watched the first [2018] a few years back on Prime and found that tremendously funny – but it was funny in places. However, l am not a movie reviewer, so that’s all you are getting from me. Is it worth a watch? Sure, why not. Aside from that, l will be going to the cinema more often now. |

That’s indeed good Rory. I like going to the theatre, enjoying the popcorn and watching a movie on the big screen! And if the movie is good, then it’s an added bonus

Admittedly she is not everyone’s taste, but that’s the same for many people, my mother couldn’t stand Fonda.
I like them all 🙂

Thirty-five years, and we still go on nights out. Although they are less party and more going to the cinema, or Bingo.
