Improving Efficiency Through Better Tool Storage

I have had to store tools on pallets because when it rains hard, the garage can flood!
I’ve had the garage where I store all my tools for just over a year now—the first anniversary was on 25 December. Over that time, the number of tools I own has steadily grown, and the space was starting to feel cramped. The main issue wasn’t the size of the garage, but that I wasn’t using the space as efficiently as I could.

So, I decided it was time to shake things up.

I purchased four 6-foot-high Dexion shelving units from the local hardware shop for £60. Once they were delivered, Suze and I spent the weekend before Christmas reorganising and sorting everything out.

I’m really pleased with the final result. All of my tools now fit neatly into the space, including the wheelbarrow, with room to store 25 x 125-litre green waste bags as well.

There are now two of us using the garage—two Garden Butlers, as I call us: K and myself. At times, K arrives at the garage before I do, so it makes sense to keep green waste bags stored there. I have well over 120 bags in total, as we remove clients’ garden waste, but until now, they were stored in a second lock-up behind my house (yes, I now have two!).

Being able to keep 25 bags in the main garage means K can start work earlier without having to wait for me to bring bags down first, making our mornings run much more smoothly.
