Lavender: Versatile Benefits for Gardening and Home Fragrance

Lavender

Lavender repels nasty critters such as mosquitoes, house flies, moths, and slugs that don’t have this powerfully smelling herb on their diet sheet. But it also attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hoverflies.

Embrace the power of nature with lavender. Whether it’s the fresh or dried flowers, or the oil extract, you have a natural repellent at your disposal. Plant it alongside leeks and carrots to confuse pests with its pungency. The strong scent alone can deter aphids. And your cabbage and broccoli will thank you for having lavender nearby.

Lavender is also great for making the bed linen smell incredible! You can make your own lavender sachets by filling a small cloth bag with dried lavender flowers. Place these sachets in your linen closet or under your pillow for a refreshing and calming scent.

  1. Love lavender! A few things I learned about growing lavender – It likes hot and dry weather – too much water is detrimental. Deer and rabbits don’t touch it. The leaves are fragrant too. I’ve mixed dried lavender flowers with dries chamomile in a sachet and put on my pillow to help me sleep. It does help.

    1. Hey Ruth, yes lavender is very much a heat tolerant plant and you are right too much water will cause untold damage. Over here, it’s hard at times to get people to understand they don’t need to water it daily.
