Thumb Recovery Update

On 8 September, I had a mishap involving a hedge trimmer with a trigger finger, a moment of complacency, and my left thumb, resulting in a partial amputation. Someone asked about my healing, so here’s a quick update.

Simply put, it’s going well. I seem to be a “super healer,” considering the thumb damage was just 36 days ago. I still wear a bandage as the skin repairs. With my gardening work, I need to keep it clean and protected.

It’s still a bit tender, with some mild pins and needles. My grip isn’t at full strength yet, but recovery has been steady. Only the medical team saw the full extent of the damage. Suze observed some early healing during the first bandage changes and has monitored the progress over the past couple of weeks.

The first picture below shows my thumb as a whole, while the second clearly highlights where the injury occurred and how much of the thumb pad was lost.

Aside from some minor sensitivities, I’m back to gardening properly with two hands opposed to one and a half, and the thumb still works well. Things are looking good.
