| An Extraordinary Gardenverse Christmas Mystery Some gardens refuse to behave… |
| Have You Ever Heard of Elderwick? Not far from the ancient town of Sandwich, somewhere beyond the winding country lanes, lies a rather peculiar little village. At least, that’s what the locals insist. Elderwick has a church, quaint thatched cottages, beautiful gardens and a rather inconvenient problem. Nobody can ever be entirely certain when they’ll be able to find it. You see, Elderwick has a habit of disappearing into the mist. Sometimes for hours, occasionally for days, and without so much as an apology to those who have travelled considerable distances to visit. The villagers, naturally, have grown accustomed to this rather unusual arrangement. Visitors, on the other hand, are not always quite so understanding, particularly when they’ve booked a coach trip and the coach driver insists there is absolutely no village where the map says there ought to be one. And when the mist finally lifts, revealing the ancient rooftops, winding lanes and familiar church tower, Elderwick looks every inch the picture-perfect English village. Although appearances, as they say, can be rather deceiving. But that’s Elderwick for you. A perfectly ordinary English village. More or less. |

| Author’s Note The Ministry of Misbehaving Gardens is an original work of fiction by Rory Matier, part of The Gardenverse. In this imaginative world, British horticulture meets Gothic fantasy, folklore, mystery, eccentric inventions and a generous helping of humour. Although the stories draw inspiration from real gardening experiences, historical locations and the landscapes of Kent, the characters, organisations, extraordinary events and supernatural elements are fictional. Any resemblance to actual people or events is coincidental or has been imaginatively adapted for storytelling purposes. The Gardenverse is intended to entertain curious readers of all ages, celebrating the wonderfully peculiar possibilities that might exist just beyond the garden gate.
